The Cultural Preservationist
Cultures survive when people remember.
The traditions, language, customs, foodways, beliefs, stories, and wisdom of a people are treasures that deserve to be preserved and passed forward.
Through research, education, books, tours, and community engagement, I work to help preserve the cultural heritage of the Gullah Geechee people and the stories that helped shape Charleston and the Sea Islands.
The Gullah Geechee Church of Charleston
The Gullah Geechee Church of Charleston serves as the foundation for much of this work.
Through educational programs, cultural initiatives, community outreach, historical interpretation, tours, and special events, the church supports the mission of preserving history, strengthening community, and sharing knowledge with future generations.
The church exists to serve as both a place of learning and a center for cultural preservation.
