The Gullah Wars and the Seminole Alliance
As the resistance moved south, it evolved. Gullah warriors fled the Carolina lowcountry and established maroon communities in the Florida territory. Here, they formed a powerful military alliance with Indigenous groups, creating the Black Seminoles. This coalition fought the United States in the Seminole Wars: the most expensive and longest Indian wars in American history.
