Chief Godfrey KHill is a Charleston full-blood Indian, historian, Gullah Geechee storyteller, author, cultural preservationist, and historical researcher dedicated to documenting and sharing the hidden stories of Charleston Black history, Gullah Geechee history, slavery, the Charleston slave trade, and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Through books, historical research, cultural education, tours, digital museums, storytelling, and community projects, Chief Godfrey KHill brings forgotten histories and overlooked voices to life for readers and visitors around the world.

His work explores the history behind Charleston’s slave markets, slave auction sites, historic churches, plantations, neighborhoods, landmarks, and the people who built the Lowcountry, while examining the resilience and cultural survival of the Gullah Geechee people.

From Charleston’s role in the transatlantic slave trade to Gullah Geechee language, traditions, foodways, spirituality, folklore, family history, and Black cultural heritage, his work challenges visitors and readers to look beyond the traditional Charleston narrative.

Chief Godfrey KHill’s mission is to preserve the history, protect the culture, tell the untold stories, and ensure that the Gullah Geechee legacy remains visible for generations to come.
